Diseases of the penis
- I am the mother of a 7 year old boy who was diagnosed with preputioplasty or something like this and I was advised to have surgery. I would like to know more about this case or if a different surgical intervention can be done. Like for example the laser or possibly what I can do and where I can address - the diagnosis was made to Grigore Alexandrescu.Answer:
They are common in boys under 2 years of age and consist of a loose coalescence between the epithelium of the gland and the preputial mucosa. In 80% of cases they are congenital and in 20% secondary to repeated local infections, due to poor hygiene. The adhesions favor the deposit of smegma (secretion of the glands of the foreskin) in the balano-preputial ditch and predispose to overinfection.
If it is not associated with phimosis, it benefits from gentle lysis, descaling, removal of the thyme and the application of antibiotic ointments.
BALANITA AND BALANOPOSTITA
Balanitis is an inflammation of the lining of the penile gland. Balanopostitis also involves infection of the preputial mucosa. Both diseases are installed on the background of the existence of a virtual balano-preputial space, with a consecutive deficiency of the local-phimosis hygiene, balano-preputial adherents.
Clinically it develops with local pain, inflammatory edema, urinary disorders and possibly fever, I predispose to an ascending urinary tract infection.
The treatment consists of local debridement, washing with mild antiseptic solutions or applying antibiotic ointments. After the retrocession of the local inflammatory phenomena, the opportunity of the phimotomy (sectioning of the phimosis ring) will be appreciated.
In infants and young children the preputial orifice is narrowed physiologically. If local inflammatory phenomena do not occur, by the age of 2 years, the preputial orifice will gradually dilate, allowing easy descaling.
