Restless sleep in infants

Question:

- My baby is 8 and a half months old and almost every night he cries, moans and finally cries because of stomach pains (I think). What can be the cause of these pains and how can we treat them?

Answer:

An agitated baby's sleep can be caused by several causes:

An agitated baby's sleep can be caused by several causes:

  • daytime agitation, especially strong positive or negative emotions in the evening before bedtime, is too tired
  • lack of activity: if he was not taken out for a ride, he was not playing enough or not paying enough attention during the day
  • baby discomfort: if it is too thick or too hot in the room
  • does not eat enough at night and is hungry or on the contrary, eats too much in the evening, or too quickly and swallows air, which can cause abdominal colic
  • clogged nose, sore throat or ear (in case of respiratory or ENT), abdominal colic (which can be caused by gastroenteritis, parasites such as giardiasis, ascaridiosis) etc.
Usually, a baby who has abdominal colic, has sleep disorders, cries, rubs his feet and tightens his knees to the chest. The fact that he wakes up crying at night does not necessarily mean that he has abdominal pain.
So, my advice is to try to determine and eliminate those factors that could cause you agitation and sleep disorders; however, if these manifestations persist, consult your pediatrician or family doctor. If the baby does indeed have abdominal pain, the cause of these should be detected and treated.
